The author wanted to examine whether similar problems exist among sixth-semester English Education students at Nusa Nipa University by analyzing the types and dominant deixis in classroom interactions. Applying Levinson's (1983) theory, this research uses Creswell's (2009) method for in-depth analysis. Data were collected through audio recordings and field notes during eight class meetings, then transcribed and coded for thematic analysis. Miles & Huberman's (1994) technique and Walizer's (1990) formula were used to measure the types of deixis and the dominant deixis used. This analysis reveals that five types of deixis are used: person deixis, time deixis, place deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. A total of 979 deixis were identified, with person deixis being the most dominant with 70.48%, accounting for 690 occurrences. “We” was used 194 times, reflecting the collaborative nature of group work, while ‘you’ appeared 132 times, indicating direct engagement with the audience. The findings highlight the role of deixis in shaping academic communication and interaction, emphasizing its importance in effective classrooms.
2024-11-15T00:57:44+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##http://jurnal.machung.ac.id/index.php/klausa/article/view/1085CODE SWITCHING IN NATURALIZED INDONESIAN FOOTBALL PLAYER’S INSTAGRAM CAPTION2025-01-02T00:40:00+00:00Atikah Auni Nasution[email protected]Hannah Zakiyya Silvizi Hijra[email protected]Afiqah Fianda[email protected]Naomi Elisabeth Sianturi[email protected]Rahmadsyah Rangkuti[email protected]
This research investigates the phenomenon of code-switching in naturalized Indonesian football players' Instagram captions, with a particular focus on how audience perceptions are affected. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, the research examines the dynamics of spoken language within a popular media context, focusing on how age and social context influence communication styles. The analysis identifies five distinct speech styles based on Joos's (1967) classification: formal, casual, consultative, intimate, and frozen. The findings reveal that Ellen employs a blend of formal and casual styles when introducing Brielle, transitioning to a more relaxed and engaging tone as the conversation progresses. Brielle's responses reflect a casual style that fosters relatability while showcasing her knowledge of complex subjects like the periodic table. The consultative style emerges during educational exchanges, where both speakers engage in informative dialogue. Additionally, intimate moments are highlighted through interactions with Brielle's mother, emphasizing familial closeness. This study contributes to the understanding of how speech styles adapt in response to varying social contexts and age differences, illustrating the intricate relationship between language and interpersonal dynamics in televised interviews. The results underscore the effectiveness of Ellen's communicative approach in creating an inviting atmosphere that resonates with a diverse audience, ultimately enhancing viewer engagement and understanding of complex topics through accessible dialogue
2024-12-02T07:10:50+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##http://jurnal.machung.ac.id/index.php/klausa/article/view/1102MENJADI ETNOGRAFER TRANSMANUSIA UNTUK PENELITIAN HUMANIORA MULTISEMESTA2025-01-02T00:40:02+00:00Ardi Wina Saputra[email protected]
Saat ini kita sedang berada pada era revolusi digital, tepatnya revolusi kuantum kedua. Code-switching, the shift between two languages within a single conversation or discourse, frequently occurs in multilingual settings and can be influenced by various linguistic and social factors. The aim of this research is to analyze patterns and syntactic structures in sentences containing a mixture of English and another language, revealing how simultaneous use of two languages creates unique sentence structures. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, the study involved 10 bilingual respondents who actively use English alongside their native language in daily conversations. The interview data were analyzed thematically to identify common patterns in syntactic code-switching, such as word order, pronoun usage, and phrase structure differences. Findings indicate that code-switching occurs not only at the lexical level but also at the syntactic level, with significant variations in sentence structures influenced by grammatical differences between English and the native language. The study reveals that factors like conversational context, social setting, and language proficiency level also influence syntactic forms in code-switching. The implications of this study provide new insights into how grammatical rules from two different languages can interact and adapt, enriching our understanding of language adaptability among bilingual speakers. These findings contribute to applied linguistics and can be applied in language education as well as cross-cultural communication studies.
2024-12-12T05:25:43+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##http://jurnal.machung.ac.id/index.php/klausa/article/view/1105VERBA ORIRU (降りる) SEBAGAI POLISEMI DALAM BAHASA JEPANG (KAJIAN SEMANTIK)2025-01-02T00:40:04+00:00Yanti Hidayati[email protected]Nunik Nur Rahmi Fauzah[email protected]Yosua Hermawan[email protected]
Penelitian ini membahas mengenai makna verba oriru sebagai polisemi dalam bahasa Jepang. By applying Lakoff and Johnson's Conceptual Metaphor Theory, the study classifies metaphors from selected songs into three types: structural, ontological, and orientational, each contributing to themes such as love, hope, struggle, and personal development. This qualitative descriptive analysis focuses on the lyrics of eleven songs to uncover how these metaphors enhance listeners' emotional engagement and comprehension. Findings indicate that ontological metaphors represent the largest segment, accounting for 47.5%, illustrating abstract feelings through tangible comparisons, such as “Hidup bagaikan pesawat kertas” (Life is like a paper airplane), which highlights the unpredictability and fragility of life. Through metaphor, the lyrics of JKT48 establish a profound emotional connection that resonates with listeners, demonstrating the effective application of figurative language in music to convey intricate emotions and concepts.
2024-12-20T03:13:14+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##http://jurnal.machung.ac.id/index.php/klausa/article/view/1108PERGANTIAN TOKOH UTAMA DALAM PERANAN NARATIF PADA NOVEL TEMPAT PALING SUNYI KARYA ARAFAT NUR: KAJIAN NARATOLOGI A.J. Candidates used euphemisms to discuss sensitive issues such as corruption, human rights, and social inequality without causing conflict or harming certain parties. Using a qualitative approach, data were taken from the transcript of the debate broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU RI). The euphemisms presented were based on Warren’s theory (1992), including derivation, compounding, and blending. The results showed that 15 euphemisms were identified from the debate; 8 derivations, 5 compoundings, and 2 blends, of which derivation was the most dominant euphemism. Euphemisms helped candidates convey criticism and sensitive issues more subtly, maintain their public image, and create a more friendly and non-confrontational debate atmosphere. Euphemisms are essential in political communication, especially in Indonesian culture, which priorities gentle and indirect communication. This study contributes to understanding how language can be used to influence public perception and voter decision-making in important political events.
2024-12-20T00:00:00+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##http://jurnal.machung.ac.id/index.php/klausa/article/view/1116TRANSLATION TECHNIQUES ANALYSIS: THE ACCURACY OF INDONESIAN SUBTITLES IN THE GENSHIN IMPACT GAME《原神》2025-01-02T00:40:08+00:00Ari Abdul Mughni[email protected]Ressi Maulidina Delijar[email protected]
The exchange of information between two languages, from the source language (SL) to the target language (TL), requires a process known as translation. The translated text is referred to as the translation product, and during its creation, translation techniques are needed to produce an accurate meaning in the target language. Translation occurs across various media, one of which is in video games. Accurate translation provides clear and directed instructions to players for completing game missions. Therefore, this research aims to examine how translation techniques from Mandarin to Indonesian affect the meaning of translations in several mission dialogue clips from the game Genshin Impact. Descriptive qualitative research method is used to analyze this research. The translation product, consisting of mission dialogue sentences from Genshin Impact, serves as the data analyzed. The data are examined with reference to Molina and Albir’s translation technique theory. The results indicate that the choice of translation techniques can influence the meaning of the resulting translation product. In fact, in the Indonesian subtitles of Genshin Impact, some translation techniques used were found to be less suitable, leading to inaccurate translation meanings.
2024-12-20T07:29:15+00:00##submission.copyrightStatement##
